Retired NYPD detective shoots 2 in Newark during robbery

Officials say a retired New York City Police detective wounded two suspects who allegedly tried to rob her in Newark.
Police say the 43-year-old, who retired nine months ago, was getting into her vehicle in Newark on Thursday night when she was approached by two men who brandished a gun and demanded money. She was about a block from Newark Penn Station near the Prudential Center.
The detective opened fire, wounding 22-year-old Tahje Hunt and 27-year-old Brian Moore, who fled on foot. The Newark residents were apprehended a few blocks away and taken to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The men are charged with robbery and other charges. It is not known if they have lawyers who could comment.
Police recovered a replica gun believed to be used in the crime.
The retired detective's name was not released.
