Coast Guard responds to oil sheen on Shark River in Belmar

The Coast Guard deployed an absorbent boom to contain an oil sheen that appeared on the surface of the Shark River near Belmar.

It appeared on the surface of the river during dredging operations Wednesday.

Officials believe that the sheen was caused by something churned up from the bottom of the river.

Divers were also brought in to investigate the cause.

The sheen dissipated by Thursday afternoon.
