Officials charge 2 men in assault against 2 Newark police officers
Two men have been charged for allegedly assaulting two Newark police officers who tried to break up a fight.
Investigators say that a fight started near Elizabeth Avenue and Bradford Street early Friday morning. When a police sergeant and detective arrived at the scene, they apparently found about 50 people fighting in the street.
When the officers tried to break up the fight, the sergeant was stabbed in the arm. The detective was knocked to the ground, punched and kicked. Both are expected to be OK.
Authorities arrested Jeancarlo Romero, of Union City, and Marc Peralta, of West New York, in connection with the assaults.
