Police: Missing 2-month-old girl, mother found
Irvington police say a missing 2-month-old girl who was believed to have been taken by her non-custodial mother has been found safe.
Earlier, police had said that the infant was taken by her mother, Joan Pierre-Louis.
Pierre-Louis has a history of mental health issues and the infant's grandparents have legal custody of her, police say.
The woman and child had been missing after last being seen at an IHOP restaurant in Irvington around 1 a.m. Sunday.
They turned up Sunday afternoon at a Newark police precinct, and had been driven there by a friend.
News 12 is told that Pierre-Louis had plans to get away to Alabama, although it remains unclear why. But police say both the mother and her child are now safe.
