Special Mass held in Metuchen to honor New Jersey’s police officers
A special tribute was held in Metuchen Wednesday to honor New Jersey's law enforcement officers.
The Diocese of Metuchen held its 15th annual Blue Mass, an event that honors retired, active and fallen police officers.
Among those who attended was the family of Carteret Police Sgt. Lawrence Craig, who died while on duty in August.
"He touched so many people's lives in ways that we just do not know," said Craig's sister Peggy Buttner. "It was such a blessing and encouragement, and we were so glad that we can call him our brother."
The Mass included the playing of taps, a 21-gun salute and a state police aircraft flyover.
