Authorities say two individuals were shot and killed by police early Friday morning in Newark.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. on North 7th Street.
None of the officers were injured.
James Stewart Jr., president of the Newark Fraternal Order of Police, says six officers involved in the shooting were being evaluated at a hospital.
Stewart says the officers were attempting to arrest three people suspected of being involved in multiple robberies around the city when the shooting occurred. Stewarts says the suspects "were not interested in surrendering." He says the officers "responded to the threat and Newark is a safer place today because of them."
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says one person is in custody.
