Monmouth County unveils new storm preparedness initiative ‘Know Your Zone’

Monmouth County officials unveiled a new storm preparedness initiative at the Jersey Shore Tuesday.

The goal of the "Know Your Zone" plan is to inform residents of their risk during coastal storms and lay out the new hurricane evacuation zones and their vulnerability to storm surge.

"It takes the guess work out of it and puts some useful information in the hands of our residents...and our first responders," says Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden.

Sheriff Golden is encouraging all Monmouth County residents, business owners and visitors to go to the department's website to get more information about the "Know Your Zone" initiative. The website allows someone to enter an address to see what the flood zones are.

The initiative is based on computer modeling from the National Weather Service.
