Officials identify driver killed in Union City crash as Winston Reyes
A 32-year-old man died when he crashed into a garbage truck in Union City early Thursday morning.
Authorities say the crash happened near the intersection of 13th Street and Kennedy Boulevard around 2:05 a.m.
Officials say Jersey City resident Winston Reyes was speeding down Kennedy Boulevard when he lost control of his Honda Accord and crashed into the truck. The Accord then slid into a parked van and caught fire.
Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say that four of the workers in the garbage truck were taken to Hoboken University Medical Center and were treated for minor injuries.
News 12 New Jersey was originally told that there was a passenger in the Accord with Reyes, but that does not seem to be the case.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office at 201-915-1345.
