Emergency officials in Manasquan put out some encouraging news Sunday evening.

They said only minor flooding is expected during high tide on Monday.

Officials expect only about 2 feet of surge, which is not enough to cause any serious damage.

News 12 was in Manaloking on Sunday, which was essentially at ground zero when Superstorm Sandy made landfall about 45 to 50 miles just south of the area in 2012. Since then, many improvements have been made.

One of the improvements was the construction of a metal barrier at the base of a sand dune.

Officials say the improvements have worked so far against the 5 to 8 foot waves generated from Hermine.

However, concerns still grow over more erosion if the storm happens to stall.

"The waves could get much bigger, therefore we have a bigger potential for beach erosion or possibly splashover, but we are keeping our fingers crossed that's not going to be the case," says Chris Niebling, of Mantoloking's Office of Emergency Management,

News 12 has also been told by Manasquan officials they have transitioned their concerns from an inland coastal flooding to a beach erosion scenario. During Saturday's high tide, water was about half way up to the asphalt macadam. Multiple rounds of high tides and swells will continue to eat away at the beaches, both in Manasaquan and down Jersey Shore.
