Missing Mount Vernon Elementary School Principal Bertha Dyer found in PA hospital
A Newark elementary school principal who had been missing since Wednesday was found alive Friday afternoon in a Pennsylvania hospital.
Family members told News 12 New Jersey they didn't know how Mount Vernon Elementary School Principal Bertha Dyer ended up at Nazareth Hospital in northeast Philadelphia or why she was there. There's no word on her condition.
Franklin Township police say that Dyer was reported missing by her sister on Wednesday.
Dyer was last seen in the afternoon of Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the school in Newark. Dyer was supposed to attend multiple meetings on Wednesday, but did not show up.
A family friend reached out to Dyer's sister, Cherrie Shepherd, who contacted Franklin Township police after failing to find her at home.
Shepherd says that when she checked the house, the lights were on in three rooms, along with the television. She says Dyer's keys and car were gone. Her phone went right to voicemail and there weren't any text messages.
The Franklin Township Police Department was preparing to have a forensics team go into Dyer's home to look for evidence of a crime.
Dyer's family says that they are heading to Philadelphia to see her and find out more about her disappearance.
