Police identify couple struck and killed crossing Route 22 in Bridgewater

Bridgewater police have identified the two pedestrians who were struck and killed while attempting to cross Route 22 in Bridgewater around 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators say Robert Gibbons, 29, and Magdalene Allen, 23, both of East Brunswick, were walking on Route 22 when they were struck by a 2004 Toyota Sienna. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The manager of a nearby motel tells News 12 New jersey that the couple had checked in hours earlier. It was not immediately known why the couple was attempting to cross the street.

The driver of the Sienna stayed at the scene after the crash and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Anyone who might have any information about the crash is asked to call Bridgewater Township Traffic Safety Officer Douglas Thorsen at 908-722-4111 ext. 4154.
