Pohatcong man charged with reporting false bear attack

A 57-year-old Pohatcong man is facing charges for allegedly lying to police about being attacked by a black bear.
Police say that Jeffrey Wilson called police on Aug. 3 to report that he was attacked by a 500-pound black bear while he was feeding his cats. Wilson was taken to the hospital to be treated for cuts on his arm.
Police, wildlife officials and medical personnel who specialize in animal encounters investigated Wilson's claim and determined that no bear attack occurred. Police say that the cuts on Wilson's arm were from an accident that happened the night before.
Wilson was charged with one count of providing false information to law enforcement, a disorderly person's offense. He is expected to face a judge on Sept. 8.
