Police seek possible link between Newark robberies, shooting

Newark police are trying to determine if three men sought in a string of robberies were also involved in a shooting that left a man hospitalized in critical condition.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of West Market Street. The three robberies then took place over the next few hours.

Authorities say the three men are suspected of robbing a gas station and a car wash that are both located on McCarter Highway. They also apparently robbed a person on South Street.

The men were traveling through the area in a minivan. But more details about the vehicle were not released.

The name of the wounded man has not been disclosed. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
