Partial building collapse on 15th Ave. and S. 8th Street injures pedestrians in Newark
A partial building collapse in Newark Monday evening left several pedestrians hurt, according to authorities.
Newark Fire Chief John Centanni says that parts of the roof of a building on 15th Avenue and South Eighth Street fell to the street around 5:30 p.m. Centanni says that some people walking nearby were hit with debris, but their injuries were said to be minor.
The commercial building has been abandoned for an undetermined amount of time. It is currently owned by the city.
Centanni says that demolition crews have been called in and will knock the building down.
Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that they have filed complaints against this building after bricks fell from the roof in a prior incident. City officials were not able to immediately confirm if this is true.
