2 dead in fire at North Plainfield condo complex

Two people are dead after a three-alarm fire ripped through a North Plainfield condo complex Sunday, officials say.
Dozens of firefighters battled the flames at the Regency Village complex off Route 22.
The fire sparked around noon in building 23. Several surrounding buildings were also evacuated.
The victims who died in the fire have not been identified, but officials say they were a man and woman.
The extreme heat made fighting the fire a brutal task for the fire crews who responded. A rehab tent was set up on scene for firefighters to cool off and get hydrated. News 12 is told that some firefighters suffered from smoke inhalation but are expected to be OK.
Eight units at the complex were destroyed by the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the residents who have been displaced.
