Police are beefing up patrols along bus routes in Tenafly after they say a man attempted to sexually assault a teenage girl.
Authorities say the 16-year-old was riding the New Jersey Transit 166T bus on Saturday night when the man boarded and tried to speak to her.
He followed her when she got off the bus at Westervelt Avenue, where police say he attacked her from behind and tried to sexually assault her before fleeing.
Police describe the man as 25-30 years old with brown hair and a light beard. They say he was anywhere between 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and was wearing a baseball hat, a tight blue shirt and light-colored shorts.
He spoke English with a Hispanic accent, according to police.
