Police make arrest in deadly Verona hit-and-run

Authorities have made an arrest in connection to a deadly hit-and-run in Verona last month.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Verona Police Chief Mitchell Stern announced Wednesday that Jose A. Asencio, 44, of Newark, was been arrested and charged in connection with the death of 59-year-old Matthew Beneduce McGrath.
Beneduce McGrath was struck and killed on June 24 while crossing the street at Bloomfield Avenue and Hillcrest Terrace. He was taken to University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Surveillance video helped police identify a light-colored Ford van that struck the victim and fled the area.
Asencio was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death. He's being held on $150,000 bail with a 10 percent cash option.
