Sandy Hook Beach ‘D’ closed due to high levels of bacteria
A beach on Sandy Hook was closed after the National Park Service detected high levels of bacteria in the water. Beach "D" had to be sealed off from swimmers on one of the hottest days so far this year.

A beach on Sandy Hook was closed after the National Park Service detected high levels of bacteria in the water.
Beach "D" had to be sealed off from swimmers on one of the hottest days so far this year.
A spokesperson for Sandy Hook tells News 12 New Jersey that test results Tuesday showed elevated levels of enterococcus, a bacteria that could be linked to sewage.
The beach will be closed until test results show lower levels of the bacteria.
The closure of the beach did not stop many people from coming down to Sandy Hook, as they tried to cool off from temperatures that reached above 90 degrees.
"There's so many people here. I can't believe how many people are here. I guess everybody got the memo," says beachgoer Paul Bonsick.
Swimmers were still able to cool off in the other beaches on Sandy Hook.
Beach "D" will be tested Thursday and could reopen if the levels are deemed safe.
