Man shot by Jersey City police faces aggravated assault charges

A Jersey City man who was shot by police after allegedly threatening his mother with a knife is facing aggravated assault charges.
Jersey City police say that officers were responding to a domestic dispute near Lembeck and Woodland avenues. When they arrived, they reportedly found Christopher Matthews threatening his mother with a knife.
Police say that when the officers tried to intervene, Matthews lunged at them with the weapon. They in turn opened fire on Matthews.
Matthews was taken to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition. His bail was set at $50,000.
His mother was also taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
Three police officers were treated for minor injuries.
