Police say two occupants escaped injury when a a small plane crashed near a runway at the Essex County Airport Sunday afternoon.
The Fairfield Police Department says it received a call from the airport's operations tower about the crash around 12:15 p.m. The plane had crashed off the pavement of Runway 10.
The two people aboard the plane were uninjured and refused medical attention at the scene.
Police say the 1985 Beech F33A single-engine craft was piloted by Tal Keinan, of New York. Officials say he was attempting to land on the runway when the plane apparently clipped a tree. The pilot then experienced some engine troubles upon approach to the runway.
