5-year-old boy struck and killed by UPS truck after chasing a ball into the street

A 5-year-old boy was struck and killed by a UPS truck near the Gill Lanes Apartment Complex in Iselin Thursday evening.

Officials say that the boy chased a ball into the street and underneath the truck. The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old man, was making deliveries and did not see the boy. He drove away and struck the child.

A spokesperson for UPS released a statement that says, "UPS is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic accident Thursday evening in Iselin, and we've been cooperating with the investigation by the Woodbridge Township police. Our experienced service provider has been a driver for nine years."

The 5-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. So far, no charges have been filed.
