Weather forces Memorial Day parade cancellations
Clouds and scattered showers on Memorial Day caused several towns to cancel their annual parades.
Brick Township, Ho-Ho-Kus, Rochelle Park, Cranford, Teaneck and Metuchen are among the communities that canceled their parades.
Poor beach conditions along the Jersey Shore also had one group of summer renters in Belmar calling their Memorial Day weekend quits early after they finished cleaning up.
Without sunshine, few people bothered hanging out on the beach where heavy fog, chilly temperatures and overcast skies prevailed.
At the three-day Memorial Day weekend festival in Bradley Beach, more than half the vendors cleared out before the rain hit Monday. Gaps could be seen along the board where the booths were set up Saturday and Sunday. But the owner of Fantastic Thai Cuisine in Old Bridge thought he'd try his luck by setting up shop anyway. The rain held out for the most part, and people were able to make the most of their Memorial Day by checking out the vendors that did stick around.
AAA said nearly 900,000 New Jersey residents traveled to their destinations over the weekend.
