DeCamp bus strikes, kills pedestrian in West Orange
A DeCamp commuter bus struck and killed a pedestrian in West Orange Thursday morning.
Witnesses tell News 12 New Jersey that the bus hit the woman while she tried to cross at the intersection of Harrison and Mississippi avenues.
The victim was identified as 82-year-old Dilma Khan.
Neighbors say that the intersection often sees a lot of traffic involving buses, cars and pedestrians and has a reputation of being dangerous.
"Everybody is in a hurry driving. Sometimes they go through red lights," says George Layton, who works nearby. "Even if you cross the right way, sometimes the cars come around from Harrison. A lot of the older women are a little nervous crossing."
The DeCamp bus company tells News 12 New Jersey that the company is looking into the incident, but could not comment further.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the crash. No charges have been filed against the bus driver.
