Staying cool becomes priority No. 1 in N.J.
For the third day running New Jersey residents had to grapple with stifling heat that left them searching for ways to stay cool.
?Humid, sticky - gross, yeah gross," says Corey Souza of Cliffwood Beach.
And while venturing out in the high temperatures can be gross, it can also be dangerous.
At an annual Walk for Hope on Sunday, Metuchen Emergency Medical Service kept a close eye on walkers.
"They are staying hydrated. We have hydration centers to give them water,? says Metuchen EMS Chief Brandon Purcelly. ?They're trying to stay cool, wrapping cool towels around their neck.?
Residents in many New Jersey municipalities can also take advantage of cooling centers if they don?t have air conditioning.
"You need to monitor your sweating. If you stop sweating, that's a bad sign,? Purcelly says. ?Start drinking water. One of the signs that you are getting dehydrated is you stop being thirsty."
Another tip for staying safe is wearing light-colored clothing.
And don't forget the sunscreen.
