State of NJ files suit against Bush administration over port deal
? The state of New Jersey filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against the Bush administration to try and block the sale of operations at U.S. ports to an Arab company.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says it plans to do the same. United Arab Emirates company Dubai Ports World is poised to run several ports, including Port Newark. State officials and Senate lawmakers have expressed concern over the deal, citing security reasons. President Bush says while he was not initially aware of the deal, he stands behind the decision.
New Jersey?s lawsuit, filed in Trenton, is expected to move to federal court in Newark. The state wants to delay the deal until the federal government can investigate the security risks.
