The Stars and Stripes are flying once again on the lawns of some Mountain Lakes homes for the Fourth of July.
Resident Peggy Lefsky said she has decorated the her neighbors? lawns with American flags for the past 10 years to celebrate Independence Day. However, someone stole the flags off the properties a day before the holiday for the second year in a row.
Lefsky said was determined to make sure her neighbors saw the flags blowing in the wind the morning of the Fourth of July. She said she had more than 300 flags shipped to her overnight. Wednesday morning, Lefsky and her friends went out at 7 a.m. to put the flags back where they belong.
Residents said they were happy to see the flags back on their lawns.
Meanwhile, Mountain Lakes police are investigating the flag thefts. Lefsky said she plans to put the flags back out next year.
