My guest today is Daddy Colon, the owner and curator of Electrics vintage and originals in Manasquan. We are talking about the fact that you have an online and retail store in Manasquan and you just opened at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Yes, congratulations. Thank you so much. So I just started as a freshman at Fit. So I'm, I'm a fashion business management major and when I discovered that they have a style shop which is like a little retail store where students can learn the ins and outs of a retail shop and managing and sourcing and things like that. I, I knew I had to be a part of it somehow. So I reached out and was like, hey, I can work, I can give you my clothes. Whatever you wanna do is ok with me and they really loved the stuff. So we only sell our originals at that location. So we sell our love totes. We sell our crew neck sweatshirts and things like that for the winter season. So the, the students really love it. It's been responding great. I'm really, really excited about it. The fashion bug is in your jeans, starting with your mother? Oh, it's about that. Yes, absolutely. So, my mom worked for Tommy Hilfiger, Dkny and Phillips Van Husen for a very long time as fashion merchandiser. So, I think in, in some way, I'm sure somehow that came back to me. Um, and I mean, whether that's jeans or being around fashion my whole life, I think that definitely trickled down and Loreen is her name and she was about your age or when she got into fashion. So she was, I think in her early twenties, when she started, she went to University of Delaware for fashion merchandizing. So, and also got business as well in Ranger. So I think it really, we pretty much have like, the same kind of timeline because I'm doing fashion business management. So, it's funny how that works. Huh? And your brother? He is overseas right now? Yes. Yes. I'm very jealous because he's in a fashion capital. He's in Milan. So, yes, he's studying abroad right now. He's doing international relations and very interested in, um, like linguistics and anthropology like that. So, I'm, I'm very jealous of, I mean, he gets to live in Italy for, for the semester. I wanna be there. Maybe someday you will. Oh, well, Fit is a great program for international studies. So, I'm definitely looking into that. Uh, do you do fashion shows? Oh, yes. Yes. So, we have done two runway shows so far. Um, our last one was at was in Brick, New Jersey and we did it really around, I think it was 57 looks and it was all um picked up by me because I do styling as well. So we really, I think it was a 15 minute show and we squeeze everything in and I, I love the production side of fashion as well. So putting it all together was a really amazing experience. How would you describe your vision? I, I would say that I just like what I like. You know, I, I feel like I really love the like coastal grandmother aesthetic and also mixing the street wear and just putting it all together. I think, I mean, even from Andrew's look from earlier in our little runway show, I think that mixing everything is really what drives my passion and bringing people to say like I didn't see myself in that, but now I'm so confident and I love it like that's, that's what I get joy out of and coming up at noon, you'll get to see some of Danny's looks that he just showed you in a fashion show right here on News. 12 New Jersey. We are here with Danny Coon who was the owner and curator of Electrics vintage and originals in Manasquan. Let us go ahead and kick off this wonderful fashion show. Go ahead and bring in your first model. All right, let's do it. All right. This is my bestie employee Jessica. She works on Thursdays at the shop. This is her full outfit styled by Electrics vintage. We have this vintage leather jacket is amazing menswear silhouette moment. Another electrics leather belt, we only sell our belts for $12.02 for 20. So you can get a little discount on there. We have some amazing vintage denim. We have tons of it from need to $25 a little discount. And then we have these amazing vintage leather clogs. Actually, fun fact, shopping, vintage leather is better than shopping new to be sustainable. So I know environmentalism is very important right now. So we have to push that electrics vintage. Thank you Jessica. Very nice job. Well done. Go ahead and bring in your next model. All right. And this is Andrew. So we have a little bit of a different vibe here. This is a little bit more of like a business casual, cool vibe. So we have this little checkered sweater, another vintage men's denim look and matching lining, which is really awesome on this trench coat. I love vintage trench coats for that reason because it's like mixing up the older vibe with the new and I think this does that very well with the jeans especially do 036, the denim, they have really cool, like hit by the shoes. And we also have these vintage leather loafers for men. So we also have a good mix of men's wear, women's wear and a lot of unisex as well to really get everybody into the store. And you're doing amazing. I love the fact that you both have the curly hair. Oh, yes, we're twinning today. We've actually planned this so that it works for us. Yes. Um lovely young lady. This is Morgan. This is my bestie from the Fashion Institute of Technology. My school that I go to. We're actually both fashion business management majors and this is the outfit we put together. So we have a denim maxi dress, long sleeves, adorable. And this T shirt we actually threw on top because we love layering and electrics and we just wanted to, you know, mix up the vibe a little bit and we have this amazing shoulder bag from coach and we have everything even designer at pretty low affordable prices. And I was just wondering because we're both in the fashion, business management major. What your favorite classes at? Fit? My favorite class is probably the social media class or the product innovation class is very good. The social media and product innovation is probably really fun. I can't wait because she's the year above me. So I'll be taking those next year. So I have to take notes and take those classes from you. Thank you so much. You look absolutely fabulous.

We are talking with the owner and curator of Electrics vintage and originals in Mena, Guan Danny Colon is my guest. So good to have you here. Thank you so much. I can't believe before you got into fashion. You actually wanted to be a chef. Yes, I for the longest time was obsessed with like master chef and like chopped and shows like that. I would watch it with my family like every night and I would and by the way, this was not by their choice. This was me choosing, hey, we are watching this because I will be a chef. I am Gordon Ramsey and now looking back deeply embarrassing. But I also, I, I love that because it gave me the confidence to just like go for what I wanted. And I did like comp like cooking competitions. I did classes and I, I wouldn't take it any of it back because I think that it really added to my like drive. So if I wanna do something, I'm really gonna just go full throttle and make it everybody's business. And speaking of going full throttle, you like to give back you and your dad. Yes. Absolutely. So, my father established IFC United, which is a charity that gives back to local causes that might not get attention from bigger charitable organizations. So, if somebody needs their trash taken out for them because they might be immobile or, or, um, struggling or even if they just need the things cleaned and stuff that they might not have assistance with or can afford to have assistance with. We provide even bikes to school bikes for work, things like that we can really help with and I love providing to them for every pop up. We do. We pro um provide a little bit of a donation towards there and especially with our totes as well. And you work with the Trevor project. Yes. So the Trevor project, um S LGBT Q plus um youth in crisis. So we donate a portion of our electrics love totes to them. So that's a really great time that we can do that. And also it's a, it's close to the heart. So I love to be able to do that and also our electrics love crew next. Also go towards there which we launched on Valentine's Day, which I think is very fitting for the cause I just think it's perfect. Is that all part of your electrics Love collection. Yes. So that all goes together with our originals. So that's um one of the only things you can find that are new in our store is our originals. So that is part of that collection. What is next for you? That is such a good question. Uh This is next to me in this moment. Um From here, I would love to expand the store um and maybe open a location in New York or um keep doing pop ups like we're doing, we're um looking at our second pop up in New York City and um keep on expanding from here. I just love spreading the word about vintage and second hand and, and the whole sustainable cause it's, it's my thing. So just keep going where I'm going see what happens. How do pop ups benefit you. So, but pop ups are great because I get to um I mean, internally get to test out new markets but otherwise people that may not be able to stop into our Manasquan location can also shop. So for example, um our last pop up was in the west village in New York City and a lot of my friends from fit, although they have the style shop, couldn't shop our vintage so they could shop it online, but you know, you wanna touch and see things sometimes. So when we did our pop up, we had a really great um turn out we actually had a line 30 minutes before opening, which is astonishing. So that was really amazing. And we also got to show people our stock that may not have other otherwise seen it.

She's actually my roommate and Bestie who also works at the store on select Sundays. So maybe you'll catch her in the store. We have this outfit here, so we have some vintage sunglasses up top. These are only $15 at the shop and online. So you can go either way if you're local to Man of squan, we have this amazing vintage jacket paired with this leather bag. So I offer men's and women's vintage clothing and vintage really for everybody because we love unisex and everything that we can just throw on everyone and really, um we have a good mix of antiques. So we have things that date back all the way, 19 fifties, all the way up to the early two thousands. So we have a good mix because of that 20 year vintage rule that 20 years back is officially vintage. So we like to stay in that category. We will have much more of that fashion show coming up at noon

These are amazing staples for your fall winter wardrobe because it's a little light, but you can still bundle it up if you wanted to this awesome cargo skirt. I love the pockets on the side because you have some utility but it's also just cute and these to finish it off some other boots that match you look so comfortable. Yes. Very comfy. Very nice, Anna. And who is this handsome gentleman is Clark? We met on the first day. I was ever at Fit and this is our outfit run down. So we have and I'm not old. I'm vintage electrics, original crew neck. So I actually made this um graphic design right here. Um I just think it's a little ironic take on those sweatshirts that just joke about age. I think it's so funny and just works with the store. Um We also have this awesome leather bag right here. Um Shopping leather again, sustainably is the second hand way. So we love this at the shop and we also have these khaki pants that we just threw in with the look. I think it looks awesome. Looks comfortable too. Exactly. Yes, we have, we have the Coziest sweatshirts and that, that is unbiased if you best believe, but I love them. Thank you. Sleep right now. Thank you, Clark. Thank you Clark. And who's this lovely lady? This is Jordan. We also met first day at Fit, of course. So this is a little breakdown. We have this bleached tank top. So electrics, we also sell vintage curated and reworked clothing. So this will be part of our reworks line. This is all hand bleached by me in my backyard. We also have these vintage jeans, these are old eyes and a good way to tell if you're ever out looking for vintage Levi's is by the tab at the back. So it depends on if it's like that shiny orange, you can tell that it's a newer style. But if it's a little bit more faded and black text, you can know that it's vintage and then we also just paired it with some chunky shoes right here. Um, if you were to spice this up for winter, if it gets a little, what would you throw on top of this cardigan or like a sh Yeah, I feel like a, like a good vintage cardigan almost from the shop. You could shop electrics, vintage for that little cardigan to throw over this. And what is a shrug? I just like a little sweater. Oh, I like that little six. It's the fit things you learn. Yeah.
