Sports fans set to pay more to attend games
A sagging economy and higher prices are making it difficult for fans of nearly every professional sport to make it to games in person.
Average ticket prices in the upper deck at Yankee Stadium are set to skyrocket from $40 to $135 next season, and box seats to watch the Bronx Bombers can cost as much as $2,500. Season tickets for the Super Bowl-defending Giants will cost $3,000 when play resumes. Those prices don't count the extra money spent on concessions, souvenirs and other expenses.
Stefanos Delfinopoulos and his son, Tony, have been Giants season-ticket holders for 30 years. The tradition of going to games together started when Tony was a child. At that first game, Tony told his father the pain from a recent injury went away just from being there and the pair was hooked.
Tony worries that the cost of live events could prevent him from carrying the tradition onto his family.
"Hopefully, if I can afford it, I'll take my kids to the game so they can enjoy like I did with my father."
