In the battle over the New Jersey budget, residents of small towns with less than 10,000 residents are gearing up for some hard hits.Residents of West Amwell say they are preparing for an extreme budget makeover. The town is in danger of losing all $971,000 it currently receives in state aid.
Gov. Jon Corzine wants to cut $189 million in municipal aid. Corzine is pressuring small towns to share services through the massive cuts.
New Jersey mayors say sharing services won't save as much money as the governor believes. The mayor of West Amwell says his only option will be to cut services and raise taxes if they lose state aid.
The state aid West Amwell currently receives accounts for between two-thirds and three-quarters of the town's budget.
