Shore communities won’t let Hurricane Hermine impact Labor Day Weekend
As Hurricane Hermine bears down on Florida, many Jersey Shore officials say they hope the storm doesn't keep visitors away Labor Day Weekend.
Many shore communities rely on the last unofficial weekend of summer to bolster their revenue. They say the storm could impact that.
"We're going into this week, as of last Sunday, right on target for last year," says Manasquan Beach Manager Wally Wall.
Wall says that he was hoping for a record-breaking summer. He says that if Friday and Saturday hold up weather-wise, he thinks the town will at least tie last year's record of $1.9 million in beach and parking revenue.
Some beachgoers tell News 12 New Jersey that they won't let Hermine scare them off for the weekend. The Sarokhan family from Westfield says that they will be at the beach rain or shine.
"We like it when beach is less crowded, so we are happy," says Ashley Sarokhan.
Ocean conditions Thursday were fairly calm after several days of rip current warnings. Red flag warnings are possible as Hurricane Hermine moves up the coast.
The National Weather Service issued a tropical storm watch in anticipation of the storm.
