? A bus driver was seriously injured Friday morning in a school bus accident that took place on East Commodore Boulevard and Jackson Mills Road in Jackson Township.
Investigators say a trailer became detached from a truck and crossed the roadway. The school bus, which was heading to Elms Elementary School, then smashed into the runaway trailer. The driver was trapped on the bus after the crash when the dashboard crumpled and collapsed on her lap. She broke both legs and both ankles. The driver was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for surgery.
The four disabled students riding on the bus luckily only suffered minor injuries and were all able to walk off the bus. They were taken to the hospital and later released.
Investigators don?t know how the trailer became unhitched, but they are looking into the situation. Depending on the reason the equipment detached from the truck, authorities say charges could be filed.
