The battle over gay marriage in the state of New Jersey continued today at the Statehouse.

Advocates on either side of the issue made their case, many of which were deeply personal. There weren't many dry eyes in the chamber after Madison Galluccio, 15, begged lawmakers to help her end the confusion over her parents' relationship and allow both of her fathers to get married.

Many supporters of gay marriage say that it is a civil rights issue, while those against it see it as an attack on hundreds of years of tradition.

Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) wants the state's voters to decide this one, while Senate President Stephen Sweeney says there's no way it will get on the ballot.

The Marriage Equality Bill passed out of committee by 5-2 vote along party lines with Democrats supporting it.
