The attorney for Rutgers football star Leonte Carroo is urging a judge to make the legal process move as quickly as possible so that Carroo can return to the university football team.
Carroo pleaded not guilty to assault charges in Piscataway Municipal Court Thursday. The case stems from an incident last month after a Rutgers football game. Carroo's ex-girlfriend alleges she was body slammed to the ground by him during an altercation. Carroo was suspended from the team soon after his arrest.
His attorney, Peter Gilbreth, says that he is reaching out to the university to get Carroo reinstated on the team before his trial.
"He just denied the charges, we have eyewitnesses and some tape. We're in a position where we're moving forward as fast as we can. Now we want the university to move forward as fast as they can too," Gilbreth says.
Carroo's mother, his current girlfriend and her father are all also facing assault charges stemming from the incident.
Carroo's next court appearance is expected for later this month.
