College football is back, and Rutgers will officially kickoff its 2019 season Friday night.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a one-win season, and change could be in the air under center. The battle for the starting QB spot is between returning sophomore Ari Sitkowski or graduate transfer McLane Carter.
Head Coach Chris Ash says he knows who he wants to start, but won't say publicly who it is.
"Right now, we know what we are doing at quarterback, we have a plan, we know who'll we'll start, we know who we'll play, but we are not going to make a public announcement about that plan or who that will be," says Ash.
Sitkowski started for Rutgers in 2018. The Old Bridge native led the nation in interceptions with 18. Carter started for Texas Tech last season, but was sidelined due to injury in the season opener. He transferred to Rutgers in the spring.
Ash, in his fourth year as head coach, says he will keep his team from speaking to the media this week. Despite the secrecy, Ash says its a new season and he wants fans to give the team a chance.
The last time Rutgers won a game was Sept. 1, 2018. The team will look to snaps its 11-game losing streak against the University of Massachusetts Friday at 7:15 p.m.
