A Rutgers University Institute for Women’s Leadership alumna has come up with a unique way to honor Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg – a clothing line.

The loss of the Supreme Court justice has been felt by many, including artists Lizzy Spohr Russinko, who says she became emotional after hearing the news of Ginsburg’s passing.

“I sort of stepped aside and grabbed my iPad and cried,” she says. “I started to write her name and then her initials [RBG] came out of it and it just felt natural to put a crown on top of her initials…and it was exactly what it needed to be, which for me to really quickly express to my community that I could feel that we all have this immediate grief.”

Russinko, who earned her masters from Rutgers in women’s and gender studies, quickly posted the art on Facebook. A friend called about the graphic and she decided to use the art to give back, creating “The Notorious RBG Collection.”

“You can get the graphic on a T-shirt, a hoodie, a regular sweatshirt, toddler-T, infant onesie and sticker,” she says.

Russinko says that the response has been incredible.

“It’s been so exciting and so beautiful to just see how many people were impacted by the RBG legacy,” she says.

One customer even wrote in to say that she has no dispensable income but spent $3 on a sticker because she saw the value in the offering. Russinko says that displaying an item from this collection sends a message.

“That you are wearing this shirt, wearing this garment, rocking this sticker, shows people that you are carrying on the legacy of RBG,” she says.

Russinko says she plans to donate all the profits from the collection through the end of September to the ACLU Women’s Rights Project, which was founded by Ginsburg in 1972.
