With Monday marking the start of repairs to New York’s Penn Station, News 12 New Jersey took different modes of transportation to get to the city as new routes and schedules went into effect for New Jersey Transit commuters.
News 12 New Jersey News Director Randal Stanley drove his car into the city, investigative reporter Walt Kane took the ferry, producer Karin Attonito took a PATH train and intern Stephen Latham took a NJ Transit bus. All four began their journey in South Orange.
Stanley got about a 15 minutes head start ahead of everyone else as the others waited for their transportation to arrive.
Kane and Attonito both started on a NJ Transit train in order to transfer to a ferry and a PATH train, while Latham boarded an express bus that would take him directly to New York’s Penn Station.
Kane was the only one of the group who had to transfer twice, hopping on a shuttle bus after the ferry in order to travel a few more blocks to Penn Station.
Coming in first place was Attonito, who arrived at Penn Station after getting off her PATH train.
Latham’s bus wasn’t far behind, arriving two minutes after Attonito.
Stanley found his way to the station about 10 minutes later, saying that he lost time trying to find a parking space.
Kane arrived shortly after Stanley, finishing in last place.
