Rockland County files federal suit over congestion pricing toll plan

“Although Orange and Rockland county residents pay the same 1/4% tax rate on everything the other 10 counties in the MTA region pay, the MTA services they receive fall short of all other counties," said Randolph Glucksman, an MTA board member from Rockland.

A Rockland County lawmaker is taking legal action over the congestion pricing toll plan.
The MTA approved congestion pricing on Wednesday.
The plan expected to go into effect this June will charge drivers a fee to enter below 60th Street in Manhattan, with a few exemptions.
"I support the concept of congestion pricing,” said Randolph Glucksman, an MTA board member from Rockland, before the vote.
He went on to talk about inequities in service between those east and west of the Hudson River.
“Although Orange and Rockland county residents pay the same 1/4% tax rate on everything the other 10 counties in the MTA region pay, the MTA services they receive fall short of all other counties," he said.
Rockland County filed a federal lawsuit this week against the MTA and its Bridge and Tunnel Authority in response to toll plan.
"I promised the people we we're not going to quit,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day.
"I think they forgot some of the basics on what tolls and taxes are,” said Day explaining one of the county’s legal arguments. “They cannot tax us, the way they're doing this. Tolls are a whole other ball game."
An MTA spokesperson tells News 12 "we will respond to the litigation in court."
