Uber and Lyft are pushing back on proposed regulations for ride-hailing services in the wake of a deadly mistake made by a college student from New Jersey who went into a car she thought was her Uber.
The initiatives were proposed in Jersey City last week.
Mayor Steven Fulop says he wants illuminated logos on all cars who pick up passengers.
Uber says a change could raise the risk of imposter drivers.
They say riders should rely on the app and not the logo.
Lyft is suggesting changes come from the state level.
If Jersey City gets its way, it would become the first city in the state with this rule.
Calls for change are inspired by the death of Samantha Josephson.
The New Jersey college student was kidnapped and killed in South Carolina after entering a car she thought was her Uber ride.
Her accused killer was arrested hours after her death last week.
