The restored Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Stamford was ready just in time to be unveiled and dedicated by Connecticut's biggest dignitaries on Veterans Day.
While the park has been around since the 1970s, it is now entirely brand new after undergoing renovations for the past six years.
Further renovations will be revealed this coming Memorial Day, including a water fountain that lights up.
Now on display at the park are four pillars representing the "Four Freedoms" – freedoms from fear and want, and freedoms of worship and speech.
And one pillar is blank – for those who were lost in duty.
Gov. Ned Lamont, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Jim Himes were in attendance. Patricia Parry also gave a speech. Her son died in Afghanistan eight years ago. She said she came to the park after her son was killed, but it was dark and unkempt.
Before the park's Veterans Day dedication, the annual Veterans Day parade made its way down Atlantic Street.
