Resignation, promotion shakes up Corzine's cabinet
(AP) - Gov. Jon Corzine on Friday named one ofhis Cabinet members to become his new chief of staff.
Lisa Jackson, the commissioner of the Department ofEnvironmental Protection, will replace Bradley Abelow beginningDec. 1.
Jackson becomes Corzine's third chief of staff behind Tom Sheaand Abelow, a former Corzine colleague at Goldman Sachs.
In naming her to the post, Corzine praised Jackson's leadershipskills and work ethic in handling a complex set of environmentalchallenges. He called Jackson a "perfect fit" to manage theday-to-day operations of the governor's office.
"I look forward to this opportunity to serve Gov. Corzine andthe people of New Jersey," said Jackson, who has been the DEPcommissioner since shortly after Corzine was sworn in as governorin 2006.
Another Corzine Cabinet member, Agriculture Secretary CharlesKuperus, also announced his intention to resign Friday.
Kuperus, who has led the department since 2002, said he will endhis tenure Dec. 31 to return to his family's farm in Sussex County.
No word on who will replace Kuperus or Jackson.
Cabinet members make $141,000 a year.
