Recycling truck goes up in flames, shuts down part of Long Island Expressway

The Department of Environmental Conservation says the recycling truck was carrying mostly appliances.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says that a recycling truck on fire was responsible for the shutdown of part of the South Service Road of the Long Island Expressway.

Service was suspended on the LIE's south service road near Pinelawn Road in Melville. The DEC says the recycling truck was carrying mostly appliances.

Firefighters spent over an hour at 2 p.m. to put the fire under control.
