Baby peregrine falcons who live on top of a tall building in Jersey City will soon be taking flight on their own.

The baby falcons are just three weeks old, but already fairly large. Wildlife officials on Monday placed identifying bands around their legs so that they can be tracked when they are away from the nest atop 101 Hudson St.

The falcons living at the 40-story building are celebrities of a sort. There is a live web camera at the nest that broadcasts their daily life to the public.

“Our goal really is to help build more appreciation for endangered and threatened wildlife,” says Kathy Clark with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

There are currently only 35 nesting pairs of peregrine falcons in New Jersey.
