It's Read Across America Week and there's a brand-new program in New Jersey that makes sure kids across North Jersey will have access to the books they need to succeed.

The free book program has everything from textbooks and cookbooks plus children's books and audio books as part of the nationwide campaign.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who started the program, visited Walter Stillman Elementary School in Tenafly on Tuesday and spoke about the importance of reading.

"We know that if our kids have access to more books, more books to take out of a library, or to read or borrow from school, they will do better. And that's the big point here, if kids have access to books, if they get can get them and they can bring them home to read. We know that kids will do better,” Gottheimer said.

The program and books are completely free of charge. For more information about the program, click here.
