Leaders from the synagogue say that the rabbi was only in a specific area of the synagogue and not in the main sanctuary for community services.
The rabbi of the Passaic synagogue issued emails to all of the temple's members and also notified everyone of the situation during services. He also notified the city and state health department.
Synagogue leaders say the entire place of worship was disinfected and that no one who was in contact with the infected rabbi has shown signs of the virus.
According to Passaic Mayor Hector Lora, that rabbi was the second person with a confirmed case of coronavirus to visit the city. He says he did not stop anywhere else in Passaic but it is unclear whether or not he stopped anywhere else in New Jersey.
Anyone who had close contact with the rabbi has been asked to self-quarantine for 14 days from their last contact with him.
The mayor says there are no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Passaic but that two individuals are currently being tested.
