PSE&G is preparing for the potential of power outages ahead of severe thunderstorms expected to pass through New Jersey, and crews are ready just in case.
Tuesday’s storms come just weeks after more than one million people were left in the dark from Tropical Storm Isaias. Heavy rains and strong winds from Isaias brought down trees, power lines and a ton of debris up and down the state.
"The most intense winds and rain I've ever seen in my life and I've been around for a while," says Kevin Hogarth, of Livingston. "It was disturbing. I don't know why, Livingston is set up pretty well. There's a lot of underground electricity, but we have a half an hour to an hour power outage, and there is trucks out all the time since."
PSE&G spokesperson Rebecca Mazzarella says that won't be the case this time, and says the company has improved response time.
"We have several thousand employees, our line crews, project crews, construction crews, they are on standby and kind of alert that the storm is imminent and support the restoration,” says PSE&G spokesperson Mazzarella.
The state is expecting some damaging winds this afternoon.
