The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office says a police-involved shooting occurred on Tuesday in Newark.

Authorities say police responded to the scene in West Side Part at around 4 p.m. A large area was sectioned off on the 13th Street side during the evening. A pile of medical supplies was also seen at the center of the field.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were at the scene, including the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Attorney General's Office. They joined Investigators, who were seen scouring the area for evidence and going door to door in the surrounding neighborhood.

Officials cleared the scene at around 7 p.m., leaving behind more questions than answers.

News 12 is told that the Attorney General’s office has taken over the investigation.
