Prosecutors in Passaic County say a suspect has been arrested in connection to the fatal Paterson shooting of a pregnant woman whose baby survived.
They say 30-year-old Donqua Thomas, of Paterson, is facing charges of murder and weapons possession in the homicide that happened on Christina Place.
Police responding to the shooting on Thursday afternoon found the 31-year-old female, only identified by the initials R.L., with gunshot wounds. Authorities say she was eight months pregnant, and was transported to a hospital, where she delivered her child. The woman was pronounced dead shortly after the delivery.
Authorities say the baby is healthy and in stable condition.
Investigators released further details about the shooting. They say Thomas was parked in a vehicle near the victim’s residence over an hour before she arrived. Upon her arrival, she parked next to Thomas, exited her car and moments later, Thomas allegedly shot her several times before driving off.
Thomas surrendered to Paterson police Saturday afternoon.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office or Paterson police.
