A man and a toddler were fatally shot Thursday afternoon near an elementary school in Orange, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Shots were fired near Cleveland Street Elementary School on the 300 block of Cleveland Street just after 3 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses say it may have been a drive-by shooting.
There are reports that at least one other person was shot, but the prosecutor's office was not able to confirm that information.
The male victim is believed to be in his 20s. Authorities did not immediately release the age of the boy who was killed.
A car was found burning a few blocks away from the shooting scene. Investigators are working to determine if it is connected to the shooting.
