The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office has announced a 3-year-old girl died after accidently falling into a sewage septic tank.
Police received a 911 call Saturday around 9:27 p.m. for medical assistance at Sun Outdoors Campground located in the 600 block of Route 9 in the Erma section of Lower Township.
According to prosecutors, upon arrival, police found the unresponsive girl who had been pulled out of the tank after accidently falling in. The female was immediately transported to Cape Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead later that evening.
Officials conducted an autopsy on the girl. The cause and manner of death are pending the final autopsy report.
The preliminary investigation has not revealed any signs of foul play. The prosecutor’s office stated the incident is still under investigation, but appears to be an accident at this time.
