Presidential race heats up as New Jersey primary looms
The nation's two front-runners in the race for the White House are both facing some controversy in the weeks leading up to New Jersey's primary.
National polls show that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump are tied in the race.
Trump is hosting an expensive fundraiser in Los Angeles Wednesday. He is facing some criticism for this because he has previously said that he wouldn't hold these types of events and prided himself on being a self-funded, special-interest-free candidate.
Trump says that he's only doing it because the Republican National Committee wants him to.
"Nobody's buying Trump, nobody's buying anything from Trump," says Edison Trump delegate Dr. Robert Maurer. "Trump came this far with his own money, which he put up front."
Clinton is facing her own problems, with a new State Department audit that found that she broke federal rules while using her private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.
The State Department report shows that other secretaries did the same things, including Colin Powell. However, some political experts expect Trump to use the audit as an attack on Clinton.
Trump released an attack ad on Clinton this week that included allegations from two women who say that her husband Bill Clinton sexually assaulted them years ago.
Polls have shown that Clinton is performing well in the Garden State. Her campaign opened its new office in Union County Wednesday and former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords was also in New Jersey campaigning for her.
Both Trump and Clinton were in California Wednesday, along with Bernie Sanders, who remains in the race. California and New Jersey's primary will both be held on June 7.
